On Assignment: WTU’s for the New York Times

I spent a few hours in the western mountains of Virginia a couple of weeks ago working on some portraits of James Agee, a two tour veteran of the war in Iraq who on his return was diagnosed with TBI and PTSD. Agee was set to be medically discharged from the Army and was assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Carson, CO.

The WTU’s, there are several around the country, are supposed to help injured soldiers with therapy and get them ready for life in the civilian world. The WTU’s have come under fire for mistreating some soldiers in their care and Agee was one of the soldiers who has spoken out against them who was interviewed for the great story by James Dao and Dan Frosch that ran yesterday. Go read it.
