On Assignment: Putting for the NYT

So last week I found myself in

for a shoot with a couple of guys, Eric Alpenfels and Dr. Bob Christina, who have developed a theory that it is better to look at the hole while putting in golf, rather than the ball.

Ok, honestly, I know nothing about golf, other than what my Dad tells me, but I like to watch anyone who is really good at anything do their thing, so golf, when mastered and controlled, can be great to see.

The theory struck me as smart, I used a similar train of thought when I played a lot of pool, line it up, find your spot and then concentrate on the pocket not the cue. Seemed to work and these guys showed me how it was done, over and over, on a putting green at Pinehurst inĀ  minimum, 100 degree heat. Troopers, thanks y’all, it was fun.

This ran in the paper

Here are a couple of others than I liked
