Projects: - The War at Home (in progress): - SSgt. Emmanuel Pickett

National Guard Staff Sgt. Emmanuel Pickett died on April 6, 2008 from wounds sustained by indirect fire on his unit.

He was assigned to the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Rocky Mount, N.C. and was the 8th North Carolina National Guard soldier killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A native of Teachey, NC, SSgt. Pickett was a police detective in nearby Wallace, NC.

He was 34.

A special thank you to the friends and families of the fallen service men and women who invited me to photograph their grief and their efforts to continue life after suffering such loss.

A local pawn shop displayed  a show of support for the fallen soldier.
  
Stores throughout the town of Wallace, NC placed flags in their windows to show support for SSgt. Pickett's family.
  
SSgt. Pickett's casket is carried from the church. The path was lined with local and out of town police officers, who came to show support for a fallen colleague.
